Prior to the beginning of the 2009 triathlon season I was searching for a way to improve my cycling skills. In the past I had used a heart rate monitor as my training tool of choice. I became however, concerned with this approach as I found when racing, my heart rate was never consistent with my workout heart rate even though I felt that I was exerting the same energy. It was hard to tell if I was truly improving or just killing myself.
As one who enjoys reading about and trying new training aids a power meter was purchased. I very quickly realized that I neither had the knowledge nor understanding to use this new cycling device. A friend suggested speaking with Jim Cunningham…a well-known athlete and coach. I enlisted Jim to teach me the necessary skills to train with a power meter and improve my overall cycling, if possible.
To my amazement it was possible. I was able to increase my power output and endurance enough to give me the extra that I needed to finish the marathon portion of the Ironman World Championship which led to a first place finish in my age group.
Jim’s experience, knowledge, patience and personal approach to your training program will help you develop discipline, endurance, and strength both physically and mentally. He is the weapon of choice for achieving success with your cycling.

Achievements: Founder of Amputee In Action | I’ve been riding for three years now. As a father of five incredible kids I needed an outlet to get back in shape after almost 15 years of non-activity. I initially started to ride for fitness and then in 2009 I began to race locally in order to prepare for the US ParaOlympics national competition in Bend OR.
Coach Cunningham was my first choice to prepare me to compete on the national level. He came highly recommended and after our first meeting I hoped he would be willing to take me on. Simply stated, I do not believe that I could find a better cycling coach in the country!

Why Greenville Cycling Center: I liked Jim’s approach of balancing my performance on the bike along with my comfort, he assessed my goals and did my fit accordingly. I also appreciated that he was not trying to sell me anything, so any upgrades or recommendations he made were based on improving my fit, not increasing his sales. A bonus was being able to return after my fit for adjustments that might need to be as I continued to put in miles and get acclimated to my bike.
My husband and I both went to Jim for a bike fit and were pleased with his assessment, ideas for improvement and most of all the time he took to make sure we had the proper bike fit. He did a great job of assessing our goals and adjusting our fits accordingly. He has also been very helpful after our fits in making adjustments and tweaking things as we give him feedback on areas we would like to see changed.

|
| Suzanne Schlotterback | Age: 37 Focus: Triathlon Goals: To become faster and more competitive and maintain my fitness Achievements: Ironman Wisconsin 2008! First Age Group win at Tri the Pee Dee in July 2009, finished 3rd overall in the SCTS in the female 35-39 age group | New to cycling and triathlon, started out as a bonafide back of the packer and have steadily moved my way up over the past 3 years. Cycling used to be my least favorite of the 3 disciplines, now it is my favorite!
I needed a professional fit to optimize power on the bike while minimizing fatigue. I am fairly new to cycling and so I needed to see the bike fit “guru” and that describes Jim perfectly!
Jim is the most knowledgeable guy I’ve ever met when it comes to bike fit. His fit is worth it’s weight in gold as far as I am concerned. I was fit on both my road bike and time trial bike. I immediately saw a 1.5 mph jump in my training average speeds, and over the course of one year, I saw a 3 mph jump in my racing average speed! As a triathlete, I need to be able to come off the bike leg of the race as fresh as can be for the run. Not only have I accomplished this with the help of a proper fit, but I have been injury free after logging thousands of miles on my bike. I am very comfortable on my bikes, especially my tt bike. Now instead of lower back fatigue, I feel comfortable and relaxed in the aero position. I attribute this to fit Jim gave me!
